Fariba Borhanzehi warns of increased executions to create terror in Iran

According to Baloch Media, on Thursday, Fariba Borhanzehi, a member of the Balochistan People’s Party and human rights activist, stated in an interview with Voice of America that the Islamic Republic of Iran always resorts to widespread executions, especially in regions such as Balochistan and Kurdistan, to create terror in society during times of increasing domestic and foreign pressure.

Referring to the recent executions, she added that many of those executed are related to the January protests and that the government is trying to create an atmosphere of fear in both the center and the periphery of Iran with these measures in order to continue its survival.

In response to the question of whether these executions will not further distance people from the government, Borhanzehi said: “Yes, that is true, but the Islamic Republic is like a drowning person who sees these measures as his last efforts to save himself.”

The human rights activist’s statements come at a time when the increase in executions in recent days is being evaluated as one of the government’s main tools to control public discontent in the context of the war with Israel and the United States; an approach that, according to observers, has deepened the gap between the government and society rather than stabilizing power and is considered a sign of weakening its structures.
