By Muhammad Zafar: QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister, Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani, has denied presence of Pakistan Army or military tanks in Balochistan, saying no army action was going on against people in the province.
Talking to newsmen at the CM Secretariat on Thursday, the chief minister assured that no military cantonment would be built in Balochistan in the future, while the Sui Military Cantonment had been converted into a military college.
He said that maintenance of public order and security was the responsibility of the provincial government and it was determined to take action against anti-social elements. “The miscreants will be chased and brought to justice, as the government will show zero tolerance on the law and order situation,” he promised.
He said strict action would be taken by police and levies, two law enforcing agencies under the control of the provincial government.
Raisani was of the view that with the change in curriculum there was a need for change in attitudes and level of consciousness among the people for their betterment. “Baloch people, though illiterate, are rich in consciousness and are fully aware of the dynamics of our society,” he said.
The chief minister disclosed that the negotiating team formed by the President, Asif Ali Zardari, comprising Sadiq Umrani, Ayatullah Durrani, Nadir Magsi and Ejaz Jhakrani, is reaching Quetta on Monday to initiate their work on reconciliation.
He was happy to note that the coalition government was working satisfactorily and in a far better way and their coherence and understanding among all the coalition partners was excellent. Raisani said his government was concentrating on the education sector and committed to bringing about improvement in this sector.
He opined that target killings of some teachers had inflicted serious damages and had serious repercussions for the education sector. “Baloch people are the main sufferers in target killings,” he said, and complained that those claiming to be progressive were reluctant to condemn target killings.
He pointed out some selected measures taken by his government to bring about improvement in the education sector, saying that teaching and management cadres had been separated, while the provincial government had allocated Rs 500 million for the universities in Balochistan. He said Rs 1 billion had been allocated for schools to ensure better facilities.
The chief minister specifically mentioned his own political constituency, saying an education enclave had been established in Mastung where higher educational institutions would be established, while an Intermediate College would also be set up at Mithari. He said that making education popular among people was the best service for the society.
