The Chabahar power plant will be able to generate 1,175 megawatts of electricity, which is nearly 30 percent of the province’s entire consumption.  The plant, which cost upward of USD 100 million, will export some of it supplies to neighboring Pakistani Baluchistan.

Combined cycle plants like Chabahar have both a gas turbine fired by natural gas, and a steam turbine and boiler, which use the hot exhaust gas from the gas turbine to produce electricity, thereby greatly increasing the overall efficiency of the plant.

Ahmadinejad also inaugurated the Zirdan reservoir some 150 Kilometers Northwest of Chabahar port.  The Zirdan dam is built with a total budget of 1,610 billion rials and is to supply drinking water for residents of the two Baluchistan cities of Chabahar and Konarak while the Kahir dam is located some 110 km from Konarak and 5 km from Kahir village.

The Kahir dam is to provide water for industrial and agricultural purposes in the province as well as drinking water for local residents.

Chabahar is a free port (Free Trade Zone) on the coast of the Gulf of Makran . It is situated on the Makran Coast of the Baluchistan province  Earlier in the day, President Ahmadinejad attended inaugural ceremony of a combined cycle power plant located some 30 km east of Chabahar.
